At The Hospital - The Best Father's Day - June 15, 2014

Lily and Lucy both came into this world by first breaking my water - so I was new to the whole measure-your-contractions thing. I woke up at 4:30 am on June 15 (Father's Day) with some contractions. They started to become more painful and regular and I realized that baby girl was finally coming! Jordan woke up at 6:45, thinking to get ready for church, when I told him I was having contractions he got excited and started getting everything ready. I had to tell him that we needed to wait - I had heard horror stories of women in pain and dilated to a 4.5 but not being able to be admitted to the hospital yet because they weren't dilated to a full 5. We were able to wake the girls up and let them give Jordan their fathers day presents, because Lily had been looking forward to Fathers day since Mothers Day. Around 8 am we dropped them off at our friends the Mijangos, who had volunteered to watch the girls while we were in the hospital. Even though the girls get baby sat at this family's house all the time, and they usually go in and tell me to leave, this time Lily was crying and didn't want to leave me. Debora said it took 20 minutes for her to calm down.

Of course, sitting down made the contractions slow down - so although the contractions were coming every 5 minutes at our house, they slowed down to every 12 minutes after driving in the car. I refused to go into the hospital because I felt silly, what if the contractions were going to stop and I wasn't really in labor after all? We went to McDonalds and got Jordan breakfast, and then we sat in the parking lot of the hospital for 20 minutes and the contractions were still slowing down. I told Jordan for us to just go home - but of course as soon as I got out of the car, the contractions started coming fast and furious again. Jordan made the executive decision that we were just going to the hospital and we were going inside this time.

We got checked in and I was only dilated to a 3 - but the contractions were coming every 5 minutes - the doctor was super nice and said I could stay, even if I wasn't at a full 5 yet.

For the first time, my epidural stopped working on one side. Ouch! The nurses said I probably wouldn't be at a 10 for a few more hours! I was miserable, but I felt the urges to push (on my left side - my right side was dead to the world) - they checked me and magically I was at a 10 and ready to be done with labor! I was in labor for 5 hours and pushed for 5 minutes and sweet baby girl came into the world.

She was healthy and so for the first time, I was able to do skin-to-skin and hold her, instead of her being whisked off to the NICU like Lily and Lucy were.

With those chubby cheeks we all thought she was going to be in the 9.5 lb range.

Jordan and I hadn't been able to decide on a name - our plan was to go into the hospital and hope that when she came out we would agree on what she looked like. However, since she decided to come on Father's Day, it was only fitting that Jordan pick the name. He took one look at her sweet face and declared her an "Alexis".

8 lbs. 11 ounces & 20 inches long - those chubby cheeks were deceiving!

She took her shot and being poked like a champ.

However, she did NOT like being bathed!

I love her double chin! She is a healthy baby!

Lily could not wait to come visit her baby sister - she had been waiting for so long to meet her! As soon as Jordan called the Mijangos to tell them Lexi was born, Lily started pestering them on when she could come and visit.

Lucy thought her baby sister was cute, but was more interested on being a Kitty Cat.

All ready to go home! The hospital staff was surprised that we wanted to go home after 24 hours, they kept talking about us "going home so early" - But both Lexi and I were healthy and the food really wasn't all that good - I would rather be home taking care of her than taking care of her at the hospital.

Lily and Lucy all ready for church with Niki! Lucy fell asleep on Arturo during sacrament meeting and slept all through the rest of church, and Lily had fun going to primary with Niki. They go to the Spanish Branch and jr. & sr. primary are combined and they don't have to sit with their classes - Lily kept talking about a nice older girl who sat by her and was her new friend.

It was a comfort not having to stress about the girls while we were in the hospital - we knew that they were being well taken care of, and having a blast.
